I love the ladies at Fat Quarter Shop and I love how they are always thinking of new and awesome things for the sewing community. They have a new pre-cut coming out called the Jolly Bar which I chatted with Kimberly about on episode 045 of the Modern Sewciety Podcast. Go check it out if you haven’t.
I was sent a Jolly Bar to create something with for their blog hop. The bars are 5″ X 10″ and I had the Red, White, and Free which made me so happy because I love, love, love patriotic fabric. (NOTE:: it had been raining here for days so good pictures just didn’t happen. I am so sorry for the terrible lighting. Dark rainy days are great for sewing but not for pictures!)
I decided to make a dresden plate because I just felt like it was such a perfect precut for this and also I thought it fit the theme of the fabric perfect. I love dresdens so much!
I made a template but measuring 2″ over on each side at the top and .5″ over on the bottom and connecting the lines. Once I have one made I just used it to cut the stacks of blades I wanted.
I am probably not the best person to give you a pattern on making dresdens although they are not hard at all so I am going to direct you to V and Co’s tutorial. I fussy cut the thank you out and made it my center because I think every time I see red, white, and blue I say thank you to all those who have served! I can’t wait to quilt this and use it regularly.
If you want to check out more on the Jolly Bar head over to the Fat Quarter Shop!
